Whether you’re travelling, working or studying in Granada, there’s bound to come a time when you’ll need your caffeine fix to get you through the day. Fortunately, Granada has no shortage of award-winning coffee shops, whose skilled baristas have perfected their trade to brew your perfect cup of coffee. These are Studiberia’s top 5 best award-winning coffee shops in Granada, all located within walking distance of the heart of the city.
1. Magia Arábica
Address: Calle Salamanca, 9, 18001 Granada
This quaint coffee shop offers a range of strong, organic coffee from across South America and Africa. Their varied menu offers diagrams of their drinks, so you know exactly what each one is made of. As well as coffee, they offer hot chocolate (including a sugar free version), a number of specialty teas, and Fritz-cola, a boutique north German energy drink in a retro glass bottle.
Located just off one of Granada’s main shopping arteries, Calle Recogidas, this watering hole is the perfect stop to replenish and rejuvenate yourself on a hard day of shopping.
Magia Arábic also sell their own beans in large packs, so you can recreate the experience at home.
Check out their Facebook page here for more information.
2. La Finca
Address: Calle Colegio Catalino, 3, 18001 Granada
La Finca dedicates itself to organic, sugar-free coffee, so this might come as a shock if you’re a sweet-tooth who loves to load up their coffee with sugar and syrups. You will instead be treated to beautifully roasted artisanal coffee and tasty homemade treats.
The shop is squeezed into a narrow lane between the Cathedral and Plaza de la Romanilla, this is the perfect spot to get a quick respite from the crowds. The inside is compact, but the space is excellently used, with a street-facing bar allowing you to watch the world go by as you enjoy your coffee.
Check out their website here for everything they have to offer, including classes, workshops and coffee beans for sale.
Address: Calle San Jerónimo, 2, 18001 Granada
Galletanas’ speciality is actually home-baked cookies, not coffee. However, they manage to compete with the best dedicated baristas in town, and their incredible cookie + coffee offer means that they deserve a mention on our list.
You’ll find a range of different cookies, from New York to shortbread style with everything in between, which comes with a home-brewed coffee of your choosing.
Galletanas sits in the shadow of the cathedral, so you won’t have to go far to sample what this Granada institution has to offer.
4. Sur Coffee Corner
Address: Plaza de la Romanilla & Calle San Jerónimo, 18001, Granada
This popular hipster hangout is perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing of Granada’s coffee specialists, with its jet black exterior and hanging plants contributing to its Brooklyn vibe.
The coffee is outstanding, freshly crafted by expert baristas with a passion for what they do.
5. Cafetería Alhambra
Address: Plaza de Bib-Rambla, 27, 18001, Granada
Cafetería Alhambra is perhaps the most well-known café in Granada, famed across the region for its exquisite churros, chocolate and coffee. While it may be located in the heart of the tourist district, this is where the locals flock to for their mid-morning coffee and churros fix.
We recommend trying the churros and melted chocolate, the cheapest and best in the city. Be warned, they don’t skimp on the portion sizes, so you might want to consider sharing between two if you have a lot of walking to do afterwards.
These are our top 5 favourite award-winning coffee shops in Granada, however the city is packed to the brim with local cafés offering top-of-range home-brewed coffee at basement prices. Wherever you choose to go, you won’t be disappointed.
